H.E Engineer. Kamel Alwazir : “ Developing all Egyptian Ports according to the Master Plan for Egyptian Commercial Sea Ports with multiple promising investment Opportunities”
H.E Minister of Transport Kamel Awazir received the Singaporean ambassador in Cairo Mr. Dominique Goa in order to discuss the mutual cooperation in the field of maritime transport.
At the beginning of the meeting the Minister of Transport emphasized the distinguished relationships between the two countries stressing the ministry interest in maximizing the benefit from the maritime transport sector in supporting the national income adding that the ministry works on developing all ports according to the the Master Plan for Egyptian Commercial Sea Ports , being prepared currently , pointing out to the several investment opportunities such as Port of Alexandria, East Port Said , Safaga, and Hurghada. On his side, the ambassador of Singapore emphasized the depth of relationships between both countries and the interest of PSA Company ,which is one of the most important companies in operating container terminals globally to cooperate with Egypt in the field of maritime transport as there are many projects that are on the list of the company such as the project of the multipurpose terminal in the port of Alexandria on quays 55/62 (management and operation) in addition to other projects in East Port Said and Damietta Port, pointing out to the interest also concerning the dry port in tenth of Ramadan Zone.
H.E Minister of Transport clarified that yesterday the contract of the project of establishing the multipurpose terminal on quays 55/62 has been signed with a cost of 5 billion L.E by Egyptian companies specialised in the field of establishing ports and under the supervision of an international Consulting company and added that immediately upon the completion of the terminal’s quays within a year ,the company of the Egyptian Group for the multi purposes terminal will be subject to a global bid for the purposes of management and operation .Moreover, he added also that as for, Damietta port there are promising investment opportunities such as the multi purposes terminal which was inaugurated by H.E the Preident of Egypt at the beginning of the last month which comprises quays of 680 m lengths , 17 m draughts, and equipped with backyards with a collective space of 50000 m2 . It is worth mentioning that the terminal’s expected capacity is to accommodate about 4 millions tons per year ,pointing out that the project is characterized by its equipment of all necessary facilities to serve vessels and cargoes. As for the dry port in the Tenth of Ramadan zone ,he stated that the the study of the project is in its second stage and is carried out by one of the global expertise organizations in cooperation with one of the domestic expertise organizations and the tender of the dry port will include the dry port and the logistic area on a space of 250 acres.
